Lake Fishing
Spider Lake
Sylvain, Gord and I fished Spider today. Lots of action in the morning. The Pumpkinhead was very effective on both Type 7 and intermediate lines. Everyone caught fish however Sylvain caught the most! It was a good day to be out in the water.
Two and a Tug
Headed to the beach to catch the last hour of a rising tide. Only a slight nor’west breeze and a tiny chop on the water greeted me. Full sun and a comfortable 12°C. made for a pleasant midday fishin’ trip. My chosen venue was out in front of the “Bird House”. Yes,...
QUINSAM FISHING 21 APRIL 2025
TheCourtJester drove to the river alone, parking at the bridge. No other anglers were seen and a several walkers went by as Jester was on the water. Conditions were similar to Jester’s last visit: water: 11°C, high, clear and fast, (.647 on the Argonaut gauge)* air:...
Big Q Renovation
I got a nice surprise today. Went down to the Big Qualicum River to try my luck at catching some springtime trout. What with all those “millions” of mixed stock salmon fry heading out to the ocean from the hatchery, prospects for finding some fry eaters should be...
QUINSAM FISHING 18 APRIL 2025
TheCourtJester drove to the river alone, parking at the bridge. Only one walker was encountered on the trail and, as Jester was leaving, two anglers made their way onto the trail. Conditions were similar to Jester’s last visit: water: 10°C, high, clear and fast, (.647...
QUINSAM FISHING 14 APRIL 2025
TheCourtJester drove to the river alone, parking at the Swing Pool. A few dog walkers were seen on the lower stretch, as well as Rollie, the swing smoker. Most notable was the Carihi Secondary group of young anglers. Jester’s day proved to be more...

TheCourtJester drove TheDagger to the river starting at the Bridge parking. A few dog walkers were noted on the lower stretch, but just down from the Hatchery limit a large group of young anglers were seen walking from the river to the Hatchery parking;...
Spring Fever on the Little Q.
OK, knowing when to say when, there would be no fishing off the beach today. A steady 20 kmh. southeast wind, with gusts between 40 and 60 drove those white horses seen galloping along the horizon all the way back to shore. With that, my fallback plan was to seek...
QUINSAM FISHING 7 APRIL 2025
TheCourtJester drove to the river alone, still searching for hungry trout. No other fishers and only one walker were encountered; as he returned to the parking area, he saw a car parked on the other road side. If that was a fisher, they were downstream...
QUINSAM FISHING 4 APRIL 2025
TheCourtJester drove to the river alone, still searching for trout hungry for fry. Besides dogwalkers, there were three anglers; a grandfather and grandson and a youngish chap who tromped through the water that Jester had wanted to fish! Granddad and...
