Spey Casting Essentials
The Angle of Spey.This is the origin of the term Spey. After a forceful thrust of your line towards the target your rod must come to rest at the Angle of Spey. This is 16 degrees if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, (13 degrees if in the south). Your thumb at the butt of the rod is used to fine tune this sweet spot. A cast which results in the fly landing distal to the rod tip may be considered a good cast.

Transition
A short photo review of a certain area on the Little Qualicum river.

This area went from being a reliable trout holt to becoming a productive salmon pool.
The transition took place over a short period of time and is not finished.
Future high water events will undoubtedly rearrange things again.
